Evelyn (Fagher) Meek Connelly passed away on Sunday, June 16, 2013 at the age of 96.
She was born Evelyn N. Fagher in Kingston, New York in 1916 to the late Henry D. Fagher and Clara W. Fagher. Her father was vice president and treasurer of the Rondout National Bank. Evelyn graduated from Kingston High School and the Spencer-Moran School of Business. After graduation, she worked in the law department of the Kingston office of the New York City Water Supply. Later she was legal secretary to New York State Supreme Court Judge Sherick. From an early age, she loved music, played piano beautifully and was organist for the Bloomington Reformed Church for many of her early adult years.
In 1954 she married John Meek and after a few early married years in Kingston they moved to Albany. Her first husband John worked for the State of New York as director of the employees' retirement system. Together, they had one son, John. While living in Albany, she was very active in the Boy Scouts as a Cub Scout den mother and she was also an active member of the McKownville Methodist Church. Evelyn belonged to several canasta and social groups and had many close friends. She continued her wonderful piano playing and belonged to the Monday Musical Association. She also learned to play golf later in life and enjoyed playing with friends.
After 19 years of marriage to John Meek, she was widowed in 1973. In 1982 she was reacquainted with an old friend Vincent Connelly of Kingston. They were married the next year and Evelyn moved from Albany back to Kingston. Evelyn enjoyed moving back to Kingston as it gave her the opportunity to reconnect with many childhood friends. She became a member of the Old Dutch Church. Vince was an attorney in Kingston until he passed away in 1985. Evelyn was always very independent and continued safely driving her Cadillac until she was 92 when she finally gave up driving.
Evelyn always had a wish to remain in her own home even with advancing age. With help from her terrific neighbor Gay and Mercy her compassionate care giver, she remained in her home until the end of her life.
She is survived by her son John Meek and his wife Maura of Madison, New Jersey as well as three granddaughters, Jillian Meek Mueller of Washington DC, Caroline Meek of Bethesda, Maryland and Elizabeth Meek of Madison, New Jersey.
