Evelyn Markowitz of Hurley Ave., Kingston died Saturday, August 15, 2009 at Benedictine Hospital. She was 90.
She was born in Brooklyn on May 9, 1919 a daughter of the late Abraham and Faye Tuman Diamond. A longtime resident of Queens, she worked as a legal secretary in New York City. Evelyn married Saul Markowitz on October 17, 1942. For 20 years she was a boutique manager for J.W. Mays Department Store in Glen Oaks.
In 1984 she moved to Monticello and became active in the community. She volunteered for R.S.V.P., the Alzheimer's Association in Sullivan County and Harris Memorial Hospital.
Her husband, Saul Markowitz died November 3, 1992.
Surviving are one son Mitchell S. Markowitz of Flushing, one daughter Audrey Markowitz and her husband Tom Forehand of Woodstock; one brother Harold Diamond of Carson City, Nevada, one sister Trudy Bittman of Carson City, Nevada; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. from the Simpson - Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave., Cantor Robert Cohen will officiate. Interment will be in Montrepose Cemetery.
