Evelyn M. Fabiano

d. May 9, 2010

Evelyn M. "Evie" Fabiano of Neighborhood Road, Lake Katrine died peacefully on Sunday, May 9, 2010 at Kingston Hospital. A lifelong Kingston resident, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Rose Perry Spadafora. Mrs. Fabiano was known for her many years of work as the owner and operator of "Fab's Beauty Studio" on Wall St., Kingston. She later worked as a make-up consultant for the former Flah's and B. Forman stores in Kingston Plaza. She was always known as the kind of woman, with a smile, who suggested all the right products to make you feel great. A communicant of St. Joseph's Church, Kingston, she was a dedicated volunteer to the Miss America organization for many years. Her husband, Charles Fabiano died October 6, 1978; one grandson Jeffery Linnan, two brothers Joseph and Patrick Spadafora, three sisters Carmel Spadafora, Louise "Gigi" Provenzano and Mary DeCicco, all died previously. Surviving are her daughter and best friend, Roselyn Linnan of Lake Katrine, special nieces Frances Van Nosdall, Anna Radel and Mary Rose Beckwith, many other nieces and nephews. Reposing at the Simpson - Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave on Tuesday from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Church on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation in Evelyn's memory to a charity special to you. Eulogy for Alvie Fabiano Roselyn has asked me to say a few words this morning. First of all, we thank you all for attending this celebration of Aunt Alvie's life. As most of you know, Alvie was a very private and quiet woman. She would sit back and watch situations and usually not say much in return. She was a woman who always took pride in her appearance, and would never go out without everything being "just right." Her hair, her makeup and her clothes were always very much together and always with her heels on! I can't help but recall the incident of her car accident a couple of years ago. Alvie, always the spry one, when she saw the smoke caused by the deployment of the air bag, thinking the car was on fire, kicked Ro out of the car and went up and over the shifter and across the driver seat area and out the driver side door almost before Ro got out. She was not going to stay in that car, regardless of her broken wrist or her heels!!! She almost put footprints all over Ro !! With regard to her makeup, some of my long ago memories are of Aunt Alvie at the makeup counter in Flah's and B Forman. I always thought she was so glamorous and beautiful there. I remember her smile and how happy she looked making everyone look good. So many folks benefitted from her skillful techniques and left the store feeling like movie stars. Her kind, quiet confidence made many a day for local people wanting to be just a little more beautiful. She knew how to work her magic and did so for many years!! Her experience as a hairdresser also was legend here in Kingston. She worked very hard for many years doing hair, but again, making others feel better about themselves. She always tried to make folks happy by providing a kind and gentle touch, especially while giving one of the best shampoos any of us had ever had. Even as her health declined, she wanted to stay in the hair business. She was a constant companion to her dedicated and beloved daughter, Roselyn. They were the "golden girls" of Kingston. They were always together because they wanted to be together. Roselyn's dedication to her mother was amazing. Ever since Uncle Charlie died in 1978, Roselyn stuck by her Mom. Through thick and thin, they were a team. It was almost a comedic skit as time went on and Alvie's health began to fail. They would spar with each other almost with the precision of Lucy and Ricky. Not rehearsed, but certainly with impeccable timing. However, it was always done with love. I'm sure all of you here have a fond memory of Alvie. I ask you to keep it close to your heart and think of it when you are having a rough time. She had the special gift of being able to make people happy. Since we celebrate her life today, let us indeed celebrate. She is again with Uncle Charlie, her grandson Jeffrey, her beloved fun and crazy sister Gigi and many other special family members. They are blessed to be reunited and we were blessed to have had her as a part of our lives.
