Eugene Matheus

Eugene J. Matheus, 73, of Hurley, NY, passed away on Thursday, June 15, 2023 at home. He was born on January 16, 1950 in Kingston, NY, son of the late Walter and Florence (McCardle) Matheus. Gene was married to Carolyn L. (Kukuk) Matheus, they wed on December 2, 1973.

Gene worked for Universal Road Machinery (later Ashley Mechanical) in Kingston, NY, where he was a machinist. He later worked for M & E Manufacturing and the Maintenance Department at Walmart. He enjoyed building birdhouses and mounting them in his yard.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Matheus of Hurley, his children, Melinda Salinas and her husband Anthony of Saugerties, Scott Matheus and his wife Julianna of Weeki Wachee, FL, his grandchildren, Gabriel, Samantha, Rebecca, Cassandra, Ashley, Christopher, Lauren, Anya, and Kalysta, his great granddaughter, Isabella, his siblings, Patricia Houghtaling and her husband Elting, Walter "Buddy" Matheus, Jr. and his wife Brenda, Kevin Matheus and his wife Cheryl, and Robert Matheus, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his siblings, Bonnie Poirier, Rosemary Bradford, and Sharon Hoffman.

Arrangements entrusted to Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston, NY 12401, where family and friends may visit on Monday, June 26, 2023 from 5pm to 8pm. The funeral service will be held at 11am on Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Wiltwyck Cemetery, Kingston, NY.
