Esther Nason, of Kingston, died Saturday, August 13, 2011 at home. She was 90. Beloved wife of the late Rubin Nason; loving mother of Stephan Nason of Jackson, Michigan, Chester Nason and his wife Gillian of Patterson, NY and Zena Nason of Lomontville; grandmother of Jesse, Lea, and Sarah Nason, Dyami and Sage Nason-Regan, and Holly Colbert; great grandmother of Eliana Colbert; aunt to Andy, David, Beth, Mia, Lisa, Dennis, Eve, Zoya, Peter, Beth, Rebecca, and great aunt to their children. She was sister to Sonia (recently deceased), Edythe, and Barbara. The four sisters were inseparable in life, and will live on forever as the matriarchs of their large and ever-expanding family.
Esther loved life and lived it to the fullest up to the last day. Music and dance filled her soul with joy. In the last week she was alive, she attended a world music concert and danced from her wheelchair. She was passionate about political discourse and thrived on lively discussions about history and world events with family, friends, and anyone else she could engage.
She was vehemently anti-war and held a vision for world peace, tirelessly fighting for causes to benefit all. She was one of the founding members of the Irate Consumers of Ulster County and was also a founding member of the Citizens for Universal Healthcare. Her letters to the editor were published in newspapers around the country for more than 60 years.
In July, Esther's family held a joyful celebration of her life for her 90th birthday. It was a well attended tribute to a woman who dedicated her life to fairness and justice for everyone -- no exceptions.
