Ernest R. Bergwall, 94, of Hurley, N.Y. went home to be with Jesus on July 28, 2014 very peacefully at the Baptist Home in Rhinebeck, N.Y.
He was born on April 29, 1920 in Brooklyn, N.Y. to the late Otto and Alice Bergwall. He attended the Art Students League and the National Academy of Art in New York City. When WW II occurred he enlisted in the US Army. He fought in five campaigns in the Pacific theater. He later worked for the US Postal Service, and then established a sign painting business. He continued to paint and exhibit his work during this time.
He was married to his dear wife, Lilly K. Carlson, on April 20, 1946. This year they celebrated their 68th anniversary. After retiring in 1989 they moved from Long Island to Hurley, NY. During this time Ernie was actively involved as a member of Grace Bible Fellowship in Rhinebeck, serving as an elder. His deepest joy has been to share his faith in Christ with anyone who would listen.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his children; Carol K. Decker and her husband Gary of Hurley, Paul Bergwall and his wife Deborah of Honeoye Falls, NY, his brother Charles Bergwall and his wife June of Chadds Ford, PA, grandchildren, Stephen Decker and his wife Brenda of Valdese, NC, William and his wife, Karen of Kingston, Jonathan Decker and his wife Laura of Rhinebeck, Seth Decker and his wife Julie of Woodstock, Hannah Bergwall of Rochester, Joshua Bergwall of Charleston, SC, as well as many nieces, nephews and great grandchildren.
Entrusted to the care of Luke Keyser of A. Carr & Son Funeral Home, 65 Lucas Ave, Kingston. A private graveside service will be held at New Paltz Rural Cemetery in New Paltz. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday August 5th at First Baptist Church of Rhinebeck, 9 Astor Drive, Rhinebeck, NY 12572. Light a candle in memory of Ernest at
