Ernest Myer

August 2, 1935 — March 25, 2025

Ernest Minard Myer, 89, of West Hurley, NY, passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at the Baptist Home at Brookmeade in Rhinebeck, NY. Ernie was born on August 2, 1935, in Kingston, NY, son of the late Ernest and Mabel (Elmendorf) Myer.

Ernie graduated from Kingston High School, Class of 1952 and Union College, Class of 1956. On June 29, 1957 he married the former Joan Hubbard in Middletown, Connecticut. Ernie and Joan made their home in West Hurley, New York for the past 67 years. Ernie was employed as a Plant Engineer for IBM in Kingston until his retirement. Ernie was an active member of the Woodstock Reformed Church. He enjoyed gardening, reading, and golf. He especially enjoyed local history and was involved in recording the history of the towns that were demolished with the creation of the Ashokan Reservoir. The many train lines that previously ran through the Catskills were of interest to him, as was World War II history. Ernie was an avid Brooklyn, then, LA Dodgers fan. He liked recalling going to Ebbets Field with his father and seeing Jackie Robinson play. The 2024 World Series provided him with much joy and satisfaction.

Ernie is survived by his wife, Joan (Hubbard) Myer of West Hurley, Barbara Alexander and her husband Ron of Clinton Corners, NY, Carol O'Neill and her husband Jay of Apple Valley, MN, his sister, Carolyn Cranfield and her husband Mark of Fort Myers, FL, his grandchildren, Alyssa Schultz and her husband Logan of Apple Valley, MN, Steven Ducatelli and his wife Ali of Apple Valley, MN, his great grandchildren, Edison Schultz and Graham Ducatelli, as well as several nieces, nephews, and many dear family friends.
