Ernest J. 'Pop' Cozza, Sr. of Jockey Hill Road, Sawkill died unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at Benedictine Hospital. He was 78.
He was born in Kingston on May 10, 1928, a son of the late Carmine and Rosina Christian Cozza. Mr. Cozza served in the US Marine Corp from 1945 - 1948 in Japan and China.
He was an inspector at I.B.M. in Kingston and Poughkeepsie from 1956. He retired in 1989 and was a member of the I.B.M. Quarter Century Club. Mr. Cozza then worked for Kingston Window Cleaning for 8 years.
A well-known area musician, for 30 years Mr. Cozza played Guitar with his wife in 'Sano Sounds'. He previously volunteered at the Kingston Boys Club in the 1960's. A 3rd Degree Knight of Columbus, he was an avid horse shoe player.
Six sisters Katherine Sottile, Margaret Fuscardo, Sue Mary Rota, Jennie Biscardi, Lucy Damis, and Norma Polacco, and one brother Joseph Cozza all died previously.
Surviving are his wife Alberta 'Bert' Petersen Cozza; three sons Ernest Cozza Jr. and his wife Tammy of Kingston, Carmine Cozza and his wife Cynthia of Esopus, James Cozza and his wife Sondra of Town of Ulster; two daughters Cindy Hoffmann and her husband John of Kingston, Angela Quick and her husband Scott of Sawkill; one sister Virginia Solian of Kingston; ten grandchildren Shannon Cozza, Heather Grant, Michele Cozza, Ryan Cozza, Jared Cozza, James Cozza Jr., Lia Cozza, Amanda Landerway, Kari Gilbert and Kevin Quick Jr.; one step grandson Floyd Rose; two great grandchildren Christopher Naccarato and Anthony Critelli; many nieces and nephews.
Reposing at the Simpson - Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. on Friday 7-9 and Saturday 2-4 and 7-9. The funeral service will be conducted on Sunday at 12:30 pm at the funeral home. Rev. Louis LaFazio will officiate.
