Ellen L. Gooding Antonietta, 89, of Kingston, NY, died peacefully on Sunday, April 11, 2021 at Golden Hill Nursing Home. Dementia gradually robbed her of her memories, and in the end, cancer exhausted her body. Ellen was born on December 13, 1931 in Malvern, PA to the late Arthur and Leotta (Brubaker) Gooding. She was a graduate of Tredyffrin-Easttown High School and the Episcopal Hospital School of Nursing in Philadelphia, PA. She worked as a Lead Operating Room Nurse in Pittsfield, MA, Schenectady, NY, and Poughkeepsie, NY. She married George J. Antonietta on July 13, 1957.
Ellen was an active and enthusiastic member at Wiltwyck Golf Club, serving on the Board of Directors and as Women's Golf Chairman. She lived an unassuming life filled with service to others, choosing to demonstrate love through practical expressions of care and kindness. She devoted much of her time and energy to joyful participation in the life of Fair Street Church in countless capacities, as Senior Elder, Sunday School Director, Women's Guild President, and as a member of the choir. Over the years, she was active in P.E.O., Garden Club and the Wiltwyck Quilter's Guild. She was an extremely talented seamstress and quilter. She had many interests and hobbies, including gardening, flower arranging, knitting, reading, singing, travel and the family dogs. She adored her children and grandchildren, and loved being an active part of their lives.
She is survived by her brother Thomas of Downingtown, PA, three children, John V. Antonietta of Midlothian, VA, Julia L. Hamilton of Cottekill, NY, and Laura J. Smith of Denville, NJ, and four grandchildren, Nicholas, Antonia, Jacqueline and Colin. She was predeceased by her husband in 1987, her brother Robert Gooding, and her sister Kathryn McLeod.
