Elizabeth M. Smith

April 23, 1928 — August 13, 2011

Elizabeth M. "Smitty", "Lizzy" Smith, 83, of East Chester St, died Saturday, August 13th at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born April 23, 1928 in Kingston, to the late Lawrence and the late Elizabeth (Scheibliek) Petersen.




Smitty worked for the Kingston Knitting Mills until their closing and then for Dragon Bags until her retirement in 1995.



She was an accomplished fisherwoman having spent over 30 years camping on the Esopus in Phoenicia. She enjoyed watching the METS and Westerns on TV. She was an avid bingo player and enjoyed her frequent trips to the casinos.





She was the beloved wife of Leo C. Smith, Sr. who passed on January 30th, 1986. She was the loving mother of Darlene E. Neal, Karen L. Jones-Serrano, Leo C. Smith, Jr. and his wife Kimberly, Joseph O. Smith and his wife Lynne, Kevin A. Smith and his wife Linda. Grandmother of 14, great grandmother of 17, sister of Marie Thomas, Alberta Cozza, Raymond, Robert, Sr., and Herbert Petersen Sr.. Many sister and brother in laws, nieces, nephews and cousins and friends also survive. She was the sister of the late Lawrence, Jr., Martin, Sr., Ernest, Sr. Richard Petersen and Dorothy Crantz.




Entrusted to the care of the Keyser Funeral Service, 326 Albany Ave., Kingston, NY 12401 where the family will receive their friends on Tuesday August, 16th from 2 - 4 & 7 - 9 pm.




The service will be held on Wednesday August, 17th at 11:00am at the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Dave Brechter, officiating.




Burial will follow in Wiltwyck Cemetery, Kingston.




In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Ulster County, 34 Broadway, Kingston, NY 12401.
