Elizabeth H. Harms, 99, of Kingston, passed from this long life on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at the Baptist Home at Brookmeade in Rhinebeck.
Born in Wilhelmshaven, Germany she was the daughter of the late Frederich Christ and Helene Hellmann Christ. Elizabeth married Willi Harms on January 11, 1941. They immigrated from Germany to the United States of America with their three young children in July of 1951. From 1957 to 1978 they owned the 9W Hofbrau in Esopus, NY where Elizabeth was the well-respected cook that made this popular spot for home-style German food that is still remembered by many today.
After retirement, Elizabeth enjoyed helping with fund raisers at church and the fire department. Attending monthly Kaffeeklatches at the Kingston Maennerchor and Damenchor was a pleasure for her. She found great joy in her flower garden and loved watching and feeding the birds and squirrels. Her main personal interests were music, crafts, and reading.
Elizabeth was predeceased by her husband, Willi, in June of 1990 after 49 years of marriage. Her son-in-law, Dennis Davis, also predeceased her in 1983.
She is survived by her three children: Dagmar Davis of Saugerties, NY; K. Dieter Harms and his wife Sharon of Hurley, NY, and Annemarie Harms of the town of Kingston, NY, five grandchildren: Jefferson W. Davis of Pleasant Valley, NY, Jessica Nichols and fianc, Zepher Pivon, of Phoenix, AZ, Alison Nichols and husband, Noah Sufian, of Phoenix, AZ, Elizabeth Liberti and husband, Anthony, of Catskill, NY, and MSgt. Ryan Harms and wife Kendall of Holywell Row, UK. Two step-grandchildren, Michael Barnes of West Salem, IL, Scott Barnes of High Falls, NY, five great-grandchildren, Arley and Lauren Liberti, Ava Nichols, MacKensie and Reagan Harms, five step great-grandchildren, Erich and Kayla Barnes, Zoe, Alianna, and Rhys Barnes as well as several nieces, nephews and their children also survive her.
Elizabeth will be reposing at the Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. on Friday, March 2, 2018 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 10:00 AM at the funeral home, with Pastor Paul Britton from Immanuel Lutheran Church, officiating.
Interment will follow in Montrepose Cemetery.
