Elizabeth Black Askue

March 8, 1923 — September 6, 2013

Elizabeth Black Askue, 90, of Hurley, was born to the late Vaughan and Eleanor Black on March 8, 1923 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, and raised on the Canadian prairie.




She graduated from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in NYC. Elizabeth married Dr. William E. Askue in 1942 and became naturalized in 1949. In 1956 they moved to Hurley.




She was a professional actress and performed in many local theaters including the Coach House Players, PAW, and Mohonk Mountain Stage. She directed the Fantasy Flavor Players children's theater for 21 years. Among her numerous passions, Elizabeth was active in the League of Women Voters and was well known for moderating local candidate's nights with tact and authority. She attended numerous Ulster County Legislature and Hurley Town Board meetings as the eyes and ears of the public.




Elizabeth is survived by her children, Vaughan (Arlene Redmond) Askue, Beth Askue, Deborah (Charles Zimmer) Askue, and Catherine (Richard) Cattabiani, 8 grandchildren, 2 great granddaughters, her brother Alan (Maisie) Black, as well as several nieces and nephews.




Entrusted to the care of Luke Keyser of A. Carr & Son Funeral Home, Kingston. The service will take place on Sunday September 8th at 1:30pm at Hurley Reformed Church in Hurley.




In lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to; League of Women Voters, PO Box 3564, Kingston, NY 12402 or Ulster Choral Society, 142 Main St., New Paltz, NY 12561




Elizabeth's family would like to thank the State Police, local law enforcement and volunteers for their incomparable efforts searching and finding Elizabeth where she came to rest by her beloved Esopus Creek.
