Elaine Marie Talleur

Elaine Marie Talleur, 87, formerly of Kingston, NY, passed away Thursday, September 1, 2022 in Scarborough, ME. She was born on November 20, 1934 in Kingston, NY, daughter of the late Harold and Dorothy (Schneider) Van Vliet. Elaine is survived by her children, Cheryl Nash (Michael) of Westbrook, Maine and Suzanne Talleur (Matthew Palmer) of Fairview, Tennessee. She is also survived by her grandchildren Aimee Talleur (Matthew Gerien), Logan and Maxwell Palmer, Ethan and Zachary Nash, and her great-grandchildren Elizabeth and Madison Gerien. In addition, Elaine is survived by her former husband, Charles Talleur (Karen Moeller), of Stuart, Florida.

Elaine lived most of her life in Woodstock, New York. She was an avid gardener and craftsperson and a lifelong animal lover. In her youth Elaine was an accomplished horsewoman. Throughout her life she supported animal rights causes and doted on her own furry family. As an only child Elaine was often happy with her solitary pursuits and loved doing jigsaw puzzles throughout her life and especially in retirement.

After graduating from Kingston High School in 1952, Elaine attended Bates College in Lewiston, Maine before transferring to Boston University from which she graduated in 1956 with her BA degree. Elaine worked for many years for her father’s company, Van’s Auto and Air Express. She was also employed by Albany Avenue Garage and Hospice, Inc. before retiring in 2003. She moved to Maine in 2008 to live in a retirement community close to her daughter.

Arrangements entrusted to Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, Kingston, NY. A graveside burial service will take place at 10:30am on Monday, September 12, 2022 at Wiltwyck Cemetery, Kingston. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested donations could be made in Elaine’s name to the Ulster County SPCA.
