Durwin Wesley Ennist Sr., a long time Kingston resident, died Wednesday, October 18, 2006 at his home in Brooklyn. He was 54.
He was born in Kingston on October 11, 1952, a son of George Ennist Jr. of Poughkeepsie and the late Vivian Jones.
Mr. Ennist was a Color Guard Captain for the Kingston Indians. He later served as Drum Major.
He worked for Wonderlys, Kingston, Ferncliff Nursing Home and as a security guard at the Broadway East Complex. He was a martial arts instructor.
Having lived in Kingston for most of his life, he was a Brooklyn resident for the past 8 years on Rockaway Avenue. He previously lived in Saugerties.
His step father Lloyd Bartee, Jr., one sister Denise Bartee, and one brother Donald Ennist, all died previously.
Surviving are his wife Debra Beck Ennist of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; his father George Ennist Jr., seven children Michael Barksdale of Wisconsin, Paulette Barksdale of Long Island, Durwin Ennist Jr. of Kingston, Shi Ennist of Kingston, Tony Boler of Kingston, Dedra Ennist of Alabama, and Amber Ennist of Florida; seven sisters, his twin sister, Doraline Dixon of New Paltz, Helen Ennist of Kingston, Naomi Clark of Kingston, Ursula Graves of Poughkeepsie, Joanne Myers of Newburgh, Doreise Oliver of California and Carmin Ennist of California; two brothers Tony Ennist of New York City and George Ennist III of California; three granddaughters and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday at 11:30AM at Riverview Missionary Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM at the church.
