Dr. Peter D. Corsones, 94, of Lounsbury Place, Kingston, died Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at Kingston Hospital. He was born January 10, 1916 in Mechanicville, NY and was the son of the late Demosthenes and Catherine (Foundas) Corsones. He graduated from Rutland High School, Rutland Vermont 1932, graduated University of Vermont, B.S. 1936 and graduated University of Vermont Medical School 1939
He was the husband of Evelyn Larios Corsones, Evelyn died on December 12, 2004.
He served during World War II and was originally deployed with the medical unit attached to the First Cavalry unit out of Texas. He then was assigned to the 133rd General Hospital Unit in 1943 which served in the Pacific Theatre Island Hopping Campaign beginning in New Guinea. He was discharged in 1945 at the conclusion of the war.
He was a Diplomate, American Board of Internal Medicine. He was in private practice in Internal Medicine for 32 years. He also served in the following capacities: Ulster County Medical Examiner; Company Physician, Hercules Powder Company; Chief of Staff Kingston Hospital; and Commissioner of Health for Ulster County.
Civically he was an active member in the following organizations: Boys & Girls Club, on which he also served on the Board of Directors; Friends of Historic Kingston; Friends of the Kingston Library; St George Greek Orthodox Church; Joyce Schirick Post #1386, VFW.
He is survived by his children Cathy & Paul Gruner of Stone Ridge, James & Linda Corsones of Hurley and Marystephanie Corsones & Avery Smith of Kingston, his grandchildren, Alexandra Gruner, David & Deanna Corsones, P. Maximillian & Marla Gruner, Peter C. Gruner, Rebecca Corsones, his sister Alexandra Corsones Brandt of Dover, New Hampshire, several nieces, nephews & great nieces & great nephews and several cousins. He was predeceased by, a brother George Corsones and his sisters Eva Corsones Athens, Cornelia Corsones, Harriet Corsones Frotten, Olga Corsones, and Sophia Corsones Stevens
Entrusted to the care of the A. Carr & Son Funeral Home, 65 Lucas Ave, Kingston. The family will receive their friends on Friday from 3 - 7 pm. The funeral procession will form on Saturday at 9:15 am and proceed to St. George's Greek Orthodox Church where at 10 am a funeral service will be held. Burial in Montrepose Cemetery
