Dr. George M. Krembs of Pleasant Ridge Drive, West Hurley and Clearwater, Florida died Thursday, March 26, 2009 at the Largo Medical Center, Florida. He was 74. He was born in Merrill, Wisconsin on September 2, 1934, a son of the late Emil and Arthura Ebert Krembs. Dr. Krembs was a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and received a B.S.E.E. in 1956. In 1959, he received a doctorate in electrical engineering from Stanford University in Stanford, California. Dr. Krembs began his career as an engineer at Philco in Bluebell, Pennsylvania and then, in 1964, joined I.B.M. where his work spanned many areas, including Display Systems, Power Parallel and Vector Computing. After retirement in 1998, Dr. Krembs established Krembs Associates to provide computer and business consulting. A resident of Hyde Park from 1964 - 1971, he then lived in Westchester from 1971 - 1977. He moved to West Hurley in 1977. A parishioner of St. John's R.C. Church, West Hurley, he was a member of the parish folk group, past director of the St. John's C.Y.O. and former member of the Parish Council. Dr. Krembs was a Committeeman with the Town of Hurley Republican Club and active in the American Heart Assoc. - Mid-Hudson Chapter. He established the Krembs Innovation Award for a senior engineering student at West Point and, with his wife, founded the Krembs Innovation Scholarship at Ulster County Community College. He previously served as Trustee of the Onteora School Board, past treasurer of the Board of Trustees at the West Hurley Library and former committeeman of the Rip Van Winkle Boy Scout Council. He was a member and past board member of the local district I.E.E.E., a professional engineering organization. Surviving are his beloved wife of 51 years, Shirley Rostal Krembs; four daughters Lynn Marie Krembs of Round Rock, TX, Jean Krembs Rose of West Hurley, Susan Jo Krembs of Manhattan and Mary Catherine Krembs with her husband Scott Epter of Rhinebeck; one son David Andrew Krembs with his wife Angelique of New York City; three sisters Mary MacGillis, Patricia Morien and Katherine Rozanski, all of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; eleven grandchildren, one great grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Max Krembs. Reposing at the Simpson - Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral procession will form on Wednesday from the funeral home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. John's Church, Holly Hills, West Hurley at 10:00 a.m. Interment at St. Mary's Cemetary, Kingston will follow.
