Dr. Arnold Erik Nathanson, OD of Glasco Tpke. died Tuesday, February 2, 2009 at Benedictine Hospital. He was 64.
He was born October 6, 1944 in the Bronx, a son of the late Jack and Lena Waxman Nathanson.
He graduated from the Bronx High School of Science. Dr. Nathanson is a graduate of SUNY Buffalo with a BA in Psychology as well as a graduate of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry with a BS and O.D. He completed his Internship and Residency in Childrens` Vision and Developmental vision at the Optometric Center of NY.
He was on the full-time professional staff of the SUNY Optometry School before moving to Hudson.
For 27 years, he owned Envision Family Eye Care in Hudson on Warren St. He was a member of the American Optometric Assoc., and active in the New York State Optometric Association, Inc. Dr. Nathanson is the Staff Optometrist at the Firemens` Home of the State of NY as well as Pine Haven Nursing Home and Livingston Hills Nursing Home, both located in the Hudson area.
A member of the Hudson Rotary Club, he served as past president. His office, in conjunction with the Hudson Rotary Club, recently offered a free glaucoma screening to the residents of Hudson and its surrounding communities. Dr. Nathanson played the pivotal role, on behalf of the Club and others Rotary Clubs in the region, in coordinating raising funds for a grant which will provide 1, 000 surgeries in Calcutta Chowrenghee, w. Bengal, India for those suffering from Cataracts. These surgeries are part of a Blindness Prevention Program.
Dr. Nathanson took classes at Woodstock School of Art.
Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Goodman Nathanson, two sons, Cree Nathanson of Nyack and Colby Goodman and his wife Stacy of Miami, FL; and one brother, Seymour Nathanson of Philadelphia. Many nephews and one niece also survive.
A brother, Tedd Nathanson died previously.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. at Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave., Kingston. Funeral services will then be conducted at 11:00 a.m. by Rabbinic Assistant, Zoe Zak. Inurnment will be in the Artist's Cemetery, Woodstock at a later date.
