Dorothy May Schaefer, formerly of the Governor Clinton Apartments, Kingston, died Monday, February 12, 2007 at Ferncliff Nursing Home. She was 85.
She was born in Ulster Park on July 31, 1921, a daughter of the late Fred and May Kohoupt Eckert. For many years she lived on Union Center Road in Ulster Park and then on Merilina Ave., Kingston.
A lifelong area resident she was a graduate of Kingston High School, class of 1940. Dorothy was a longtime member of the Business and Professional Club at the YWCA. For many years she was a secretary at I.B.M., Kingston.
A Sunday School teacher at various local churches, Dorothy performed locally with choirs and choral groups. Her philosophy was: 'Music and children are my gift from God.'
On June 24, 1976, her husband Walter G. Schaefer, Sr. died. Three brothers Clarence, Milton and Frederick Eckert all died previously.
She is survived by her nieces Linda Hill and Dorothy Weekly and nephew Carmiro Landi; her beloved cousin and friend Sharon Cruz.
