Dorothy Grace Shaut of Genesee Avenue, Lake Katrine died Wednesday, January 31, 2007 at Kingston Hospital. She was 84.
She was born in Rhinebeck on December 9, 1922, a daughter of the late William and Cornelius Feller Demarest. Mrs. Shaut attended SUNY Albany and, in 1942, married Adelbert Shaut.
Formerly of Albany, in 1956 she moved to Poughkeepsie where they lived on South Cherry Street. For many years she worked as a bookkeeper in Poughkeepsie. An avid square dancer, Mrs. Shaut belonged to the First Baptist Church, Poughkeepsie for over 50 years. She was recently recongnized for her half-century of service to the church.
Her husband, Adelbert, died in 1989; one son Vernon died in 1983; two brothers Malcom and Arnold Demarest both died previously.
Surviving are her son Robert W. Shaut and his wife Linda of Lake Katrine; her daughter in law Brenda Shaut Maggi of Staten Island; seven grandchildren Matthew, Daniel, Anthony, Andrea, Vernon, Gina and David Shaut; several nieces and nephews.
Reposing at the Simpson - Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be conducted on Saturday at 12:00. Rev. David Brechter will officiate. Interment will be in St. Paul's Cemetery, Red Hook.
