Dorothy G. Parsons

Dorothy Gerdts Parsons, 93, of Sawkill, died Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at the Barnwell Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Valatie, NY. Born in New York City, she was a daughter of the late Julius & Gertrude Everett Gerdts. Dorothy was the wife of the late Bert Parsons, whom she married on February 9, 1946 and who passed in 2012. She was a veteran of the US Navy, having served during WWII. She was also a member of the St. Luke's School of Nursing Alumni Association. Dorothy is survived by four children, Cynthia VanDerWerf and her husband Paul of Brunswick, ME, Craig Parsons and his wife Joanne of Longs, SC, Eric Parsons and his wife Joan of Seaford, NY and Lisa Muller and her husband Doug of Hamden, CT. Seven grandchildren, Deva Fagan, David VanDerWerf, Melanie, Andrew, and William Muller, Kristen Garvey, and Michael Duquette. The family will receive friends at the Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave., on Saturday, August 24, 2013 from 11:00 -12:30 PM. A funeral service will be conducted at 12:30 PM. Interment, with military honors will follow in Woodstock Cemetery. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Southern Poverty Law Center, 400 Washington Ave., Montgomery, AL 36104.
