Dorothea M. Papps

Dorothea M. Papps, of Lindenhurst, NY, died Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at her daughter's home in Kingston NY. She was 91. Dorothea was born in Lindenhurst to the late Eugene and Dorothea Young Rayser. A longtime Lindenhurst resident, her husband James Mason Papps died in 1992. In her years following high school, Dot worked for an insurance company in New York City and for businesses in Lindenhurst. She delighted in using her time and talents in the raising of her family. Dot was a devoted wife, mother, aunt and grandmother and found great joy in spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed travelling, reading, knitting, crossword puzzles and the using the computer. She was a faithful and active member of Grace United Methodist Church in Lindenhurst for nearly 70 years, sharing her voice in the choir, teaching Sunday school and participating in many fellowship activities. Dorothea was the beloved mother of Valerie Connors and her husband Dennis of Kingston, NY, Beverly Skeffington and her husband Jacq of Seattle, Washington; loving grandmother of Christina, Colleen, James and Patrick Connors, Mason and Charlotte Skeffington; sister of Elsie Warta of Lindenhurst and Vivian Boehl of Bath, PA, aunt of several nieces and nephews. Dorothea moved in with her daughter and son-in-law in June 2010. A memorial service will be conducted at a later date.
