Doris Mandel, 94, of Saugerties, died peacefully Wednesday, February 01, 2012 at Northern Duchess Hospital after a short illness.
Born in New York City, she was the daughter of the late Frank & Rebecca Garfein Rosenblum.
She was married to Albert Mandel for 63 years who predeceased her in 2001.
In her middle years she was an excellent cook and hostess extraordinaire. She spent countless hours raising money for Temple Emanuel in Long Beach, NY, where she lived most of her adult life. She served as the Temple's Sisterhood president for several terms. After living in Long Beach for many years, Doris and her husband moved to California where she remained until her husbands' death in 2001 at which time she moved to Kingston.
She loved politics and volunteered for Maurice Hinchey's congressional campaigns. Doris was an avid bridge player, a voracious reader and loved crossword puzzles. Her favorite pass time, however, was to be with her grandchildren and great grandchildren whom she adored.
She is survived by her two daughters, Susan Mandel of Alta Dena, CA, and Honey Fein, her son-in-law Dr. Steven Fein, grandchildren, Ron Fein and Sharon Miller and their wonderful spouses, Gershona and Jeremy, and great grandchildren, Jonah, Mira and Mattingly.
A funeral service will be held at Simpson Gaus funeral home on Sunday, Feb 5, 2012 at 11 in the morning.
The family will be sitting shiva from 5 to 8 pm on Monday at the Fein family residence in Stone Ridge.
