Doreen Ellen (Hayes) Goodwin of Ormond Beach, FL and Kingston, NY entered into eternal life on February 19, 2020 with her family at her side.
Doreen was born April 29th, 1929 at Vassar Brothers Hospital in Poughkeepsie New York. She was the daughter of Harold William Hayes and Jennie K. (Osterhoudt) Hayes, and sister to Donald (wife Dorothy) and Richard (wife Sherrill) Hayes; that all preceded her into heaven.
Doreen was raised on Thompson Street in Poughkeepsie and graduated Poughkeepsie High School in 1948. She was a member of the local Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and was once voted BSI Girl of the year.
After school Doreen traveled to Bermuda with her friend Norma Parkinson, which is a trip she mentioned often with fondness. She worked at Vassar Brothers Hospital in the records department until 1961.
Doreen met Norman Edwin Goodwin and was married June 8th 1958. Delores Tubbs was maid of honor. She often mentioned her honeymoon visits to Quebec City, New Orleans, and PasaGrille FL (apparently the lightening was spectacular in PasaGrille). Doreen and Norman moved to Kingston NY in 1961, they and had two children, Norman and Marianne, and enjoyed family camping in the summers and visiting family or mountain drives on weekends. A lifetime favorite vacation for Doreen was a car trip across country in 1972, taking a month to see just about everything in the country on one trip. She handled the excitement of children growing through the teen years with aplomb; taking events like broke bones, car crashes, and occasionally fires or explosions in the back yard in stride. The family attended Saint John's Episcopal church on Albany Avenue in Kingston every Sunday. Doreen was an active member of St. John’s ECW and enjoyed working at the church rummage sale, Christmas Fair and could always be found at the white elephant booth at the summer chicken barbeque. Doreen read from her bible daily and prayed for her family avidly. As empty nesters, Doreen and Norman enjoyed cruises in the Caribbean and group trips to places like Greece and Turkey with their very good friends George and Mary Mine.
Doreen didn't mind telling her age... forever 29 years old! Doreen loved life and her family and was known for her beautiful smile. Pictures of the grandkids could be found throughout the house and she always looked forward to the next trip to see them. Doreen enjoyed many activities including walks outdoors, gardening and shopping with her daughter (especially their annual “Great Christmas Shopping Extravaganza.”)
Doreen is survived by her husband Norman, son Norm and his wife Karen and their three children Kendra, Trevor and Derek; daughter Marianne Ananew and her husband George; Sister-in-law (more like a sister) Patricia Lysko and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church, 207 Albany Ave, Kingston NY on Saturday, November 14, 2020 at 11:00AM.
A private interment will follow.
The service will also be available on Zoom (information on St. John’s website).
