Donald J. Reis, 67, of Port Ewen, died Sunday, May 7, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family.
Born in New York City, he was a son of the late Harold T. & Patrice McGinty Reis. Don was a veteran of the US Army. He owned and operated Reis-Turck Associates. He served on various committees in the community, including the America Heart Association and the Children's Home. Don was a great outdoorsman who loved nature. He was an avid hunter, hiker, golfer and skier. He enjoyed working in his garden and was known for his legendary zucchini bread. Don was always willing to come to someone's aid. He was a parishioner of St. Joseph's Church, where he was a Eucharistic Minister and a Lector.
Don is survived by his wife of 19 years, Cookie Perry Reis of Port Ewen, three sons, Patrick Reis of Brooklyn, Matthew Reis and his wife Jennifer of Hamburg, NY, Dr. Michael Reis of Westbury, CT, a stepmother, Marie Reis of Winnabow, NC, five siblings, Thomas Reis of Kingston, Maripat Brady and her husband Paul of Biddeford, ME, Terrance Reis and his wife Mary of Bethany Beach, DE, Laura Pappini and her husband Al of Carolina Beach, NC and Sheri Borgeson and her husband Bill of Leland, NC, One grandson, Cameron John Reis, two goddaughters, Jessica Reis Warrick and Chelsea Ann Bonestell. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
The family of Don will receive friends at the Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave on Thursday, May 11, 2017 from 3-8 PM.
The funeral procession will form from the funeral home on Friday at 10:00 AM.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Church.
Entombment with military honors by the Joyce Schirick Post 1386, Color Guard will follow in Wiltwyck Mausoleum.
The family requests that memorial donations be made to the charity of one's choice.
