Donald C. Hughes, Sr., 67, of Kingston, NY, died Saturday, June 19, 2010 at Benedictine Hospital, Kingston, NY. He was born September 5, 1942 in Kingston, NY to the late David and the late Martha (Priest) Hughes.
He was married to Cheryl (Comfort) Hughes, who survives at home.
Donald served as an Aircraft Handler, Petty Officer 3rd Class, in the United States Navy. He served aboard the USS Essex and then served on the USS Ticonderoga in Viet Nam as an aircraft director. Donald was awarded the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon.
Donald's true calling was his career at Iron Mountain Records Management, Inc. He started as a security guard in 1974 and through hard work and loyalty helped lay the foundation for the present Iron Mountain Company. He was the Vice President, before retiring in 1997.
He spent several years as the President of the Association of Commercial Records Centers, and received
many honors.
Donald also served on the Ulster County Sheriff's Department from 1966 - 1968.
He spent time working with his father who owned Expert Tree Service, and had opened his own carpet business.
Before his illness he was an avid golfer and was a member of the Rondout Golf Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping in the Adirondacks.
He was a classic car lover, winning many trophies for his 1940 Chevy and his 1923 t-Bucket.

daughters; Shannon Hughes of Stone Ridge, NY and Jennifer Benson and her husband Ken of Catskill, NY and granddaughter, Cheyenne Faerber of Stone Ridge, NY; granddaughter, Kayla Benson of Catskill, NY; Grandson, Fenner Hughes of Parsonsfield, ME; granddaughter, Kierstin Benson of Catskill, NY; grandson, John Benson of Catskill, NY; grandson, Jimmy Benson of Saugerties, NY., brother; Dave Hughes of Saugerties, NY, sister; Judy Donahue of Kingston, NY
He was predeceased by his parents, and sister Gloria Constable.
Entrusted to the care of the Keyser Funeral Service, Inc., 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston. Memorial services will be held this Saturday at 11:00 AM. Fr. Chris Berean, officiating. Military honors will be provided by Joyce Schirick Post # 1386 VFW, and active duty Navy personnel.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Ulster County, 34 Broadway, Kingston, NY 12401.
