Donald G. Beesmer, 78, of Stone Road, West Hurley, died Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at Benedictine Hospital with his wife & family by his side.
Born in Stony Hollow, October 8th, 1933, he was the son of the late Henry & Naomi Baker Beesmer.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy from 1951-1954 having served in the Korean Conflict on the USS McNair. He worked at The Hudson Cement Company and was a well-known Contractor in the area doing business as Don Beesmer Construction, Inc. from 1973-2011. He is a Former President and member of the Morgan Hill Gun Club, a coach and sponsor of teams in the Town of Ulster Sandlot League and a Life Member of the Joyce-Schirick VFW Post# 1386. Donald was a member of the Hurley Town Planning Board. He was a Trustee & Faithful supporter for over 30 years of the Evangelical Wesleyan Churches of Lake Idlewild and Great Bend, PA where his Step-Son Rev. Donald Snedeker currently pastors.
He is survived by his loving wife & Companion for over 37 years Virginia Whitaker Beesmer of West Hurley, his two daughters, Debra Volke of Lula, GA and Donna Steinhilber of Alpharetta, GA. His four stepsons, Rev. Donald Snedeker of Clifford Township, PA, Randy Snedeker of Gloversville, NY, Brian Bagalonis and Thomas Bagalonis of West Hurley, his five brothers William, Gary & Fredrick Beesmer of West Hurley and Richard & Kenneth Beesmer of Kingston. His five sisters, Marion Jones, Dolores West, Judy Koplovitz & Mattie Hofbauer of Kingston and Marlene Perry of Connelly, NY, his 19 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
He is predeceased by his brothers George, Henry, Glenn, Roger & James Beesmer.
Reposing at the Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. on Friday, from 2-4 & 7-9 PM.
A Funeral Service will be conducted on Saturday at 12:00 PM at the funeral home, by the Rev. Donald Snedeker & Presiding Bishop W.L. Sarber of the Evangelical Wesleyan Church. Interment will follow with military honors by Joyce-Schirick Post 1386 Color Guard, in Mt. Marion Cemetery.
