Donald A. Mac Isaac

Donald A. Mac Isaac, 83, of Kingston, NY, passed away at the Benedictine Hospital on Memorial Day, May 28, 2012 surrounded by the love of his family and friends. Born in Cambridge, MA on June 1, 1928, he was the son of Angus and Mae (Cameron) Mac Isaac. After graduating from Malden High School in Malden, MA, he joined the US Army and served his country in Korea until months before the war. Returning to the states, he graduated from the Boston University College of Communications as president of his class.

In 1959, he joined IBM in Kingston and became Director of Communications at the Kingston site. He was active in Kiwanis Club and wrote and directed many of the popular "Kiwanis Kapers", raising money for high school graduates. He later became president of the club. While in Kingston, he served on the Board of Directors at the Benedictine Hospital and Rondout Savings Bank. In the 1960's he was named "Outstanding Man of the Year" by the Junior Chamber of Commerce.

In 1974, while at IBM, he was transferred to Corporate Headquarters in Armonk, NY where he was among other things, producer and director of "Tall Ships", the film that was seen on PBS nationwide promoting the country's Bicentennial, "Operation Sail 1976". He also worked on IBM's first TV film production "Don Quixote" starring Rex Harrison. He later served as Division Director of Communications for several divisions in New York and New Jersey, being very active in the introduction of IBM's first Personal Computer. After 28 years, he retired from IBM to start his own business and to pursue his dreams of adventure travel. Don and his wife Judy travelled to 6 of the 7 continents, rafting the Bio Bio River in Chile, and trekking in Nepal. Donald climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro, meeting former President Carter coming down, and had dinner with Carter's family. Don and Judy later wrote a book about their travels "Adventures After 50". adventuresafter50.com/

Donald is survived by his wife of 57 years, Judy (Drake) Mac Isaac, his children, Cathleen Michalak and her husband Glenn of Warrington, PA, Michael Mac Isaac and his wife Deborah of Saugerties, NY, D. Cameron Mac Isaac and his wife Traci of Argyle, TX, his grandchildren, Molly, Abigail, Daniel, Matthew, Megan and Daniel, as well as his brother in law, B Stetson Drake and sister in law Sue Drake nieces Debra and Pamela and nephews Michael, Kelly, Christopher and Matthew.

The family wishes to express their most sincere gratitude to the staff at Ten Broeck Commons Rehab for their loving care and also to Hospice at Benedictine Hospital for their compassionate care.

Entrusted to the care of Luke Keyser of A. Carr & Son Funeral Home, 65 Lucas Ave, Kingston, NY 12401 where friends may call on Friday from 5 to 8pm. A mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday at 10am at St. Josephs Roman Catholic Church, Wall Street, Kingston, NY. Burial will follow in Wiltwyck Cemetery, Kingston.
