Dolores M. Burns, 88, of Harding Ave., Kingston, died Wednesday, May 2, 2012 after a long illness.
She was a graduate of Kingston High School, class of 1940 and the University of the State of New York, State Teacher's College, at New Paltz, Class of 1944, earning a Bachelors of Education. She started her teaching career in the Pearl River School District and moved back to teach in the Kingston Consolidated Schools. After raising her family she went back to work for the Ulster County Department of Social Servcies, retiring as a supervisor in 1978.
A very active member of the Clinton Avenue United Methodist Church, she served as treasurer of the United Methodist Women, a member of the GEM Society at church and served on the church council. She was a former member and served on the board of trustees at the First Presbyterian Church and former member and board member of the YWCA of Kingston.
She was born May 16, 1923 in Kingston the daughter of the late Frederick Krom and Glennie Krom Amell. She was the wife of the late Robert Burns; they wed on September 12, 1947. Mr. Burns died January 27, 1996.
Dolores is survived by her daughter Bonnie M. Jacobsen and her husband Neil Jacobsen of Kingston and grandson Robert R. Jacobsen and his wife Carly R. Jacobsen of Kingston.
Entrusted to the care Eric Keyser, Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston, Friends may call on Friday from 4 - 7 pm. The services will be held on Saturday at 1:00 pm. With Rev. Darlene Kelly, officiating. Private entombment in Wiltwyck Cemetery Mausoleum.
