Diletta "Millie" A. Smedes, 90, of Kingston, died Sunday, June 26, 2011 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
She was born March 2, 1921 in Bristol, CT to the late Amadeo and the late Antoinette (Denote) Cercone and was the wife of the late Vincent J. Smedes, who died 1984.
Mrs. Smedes was a communicant St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and drawing. Her favorite pastime was to have her family and friends at her home, she particularly loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a faithful contributor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
"A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was, sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove, but the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child."
She is survived by her loving family, her sons Vincent G. Smedes and his wife Judy of Tuscon, AZ., Michael E. Smedes and his wife Jane of Kingston, her grandchildren, Laura Antoyan and her husband Adam, Michael V. Smedes and his wife Kiersten, Claudia Sherk, Jessika Smedes and her fiancé Paul, Samantha Smedes - Forlani and her husband Willis, Stephanie Allred and her husband Brad, Amanda Smedes and Gary Short and his wife Danielle, 15 great grandchildren, a brother Paul Cercone of Kingston, many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother Edward Cercone and a sister Mary Longendyke
Entrusted to the care of the Keyser Funeral Service, Inc., 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston. The family will receive their friends on Wednesday from 3 - 7 pm. The service will be Thursday at 11 a.m. Burial in Wiltwyck Cemetery.
