David M. Fletcher, D.M.D., of Robin Lane, Town of Ulster, died Thursday, April 28, 2011 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was 62.
A lifelong Kingston resident, he was a son of the late Morris J. Fletcher, D.D.S. and Shirley Berman Fletcher, R.N., Ph.D.
A graduate of Kingston High School, class of '66, David received a Bachelor's degree from Boston University in 1970, and a D.M.D. at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in 1974. He did his residency in General Dentistry at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis. He married Brenda Dorn on June 3, 1972.
Dr. Fletcher joined his father's dental practice in 1975 and continued practicing General Dentistry until his retirement in 2006. He belonged to the Ulster - Greene Dental Study Club, Dental Society of the State of New York, American Dental Association, a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry and Staff of Kingston Hospital.
A life-long member of Congregation Agudas Achim, Dr. Fletcher served as past president and treasurer of their Board of Directors and was Chairman of the Agudas Achim Chevra Kadisha. He was an active Board Member of the Jewish Federation of Ulster County, and Board Member of Jewish Family Services of Ulster County, Inc. A Lifetime Associate of Hadassah, he belonged to B'nai B'rith.
He was a Trustee of the Independent Order Brith Abraham Cemetery and Board Member of Montrepose Cemetery. Dr. Fletcher previously served as Board Member of Always There and served as an Advisory Council member of Ulster County R.S.V.P.
Dr. Fletcher was an enthusiastic, outspoken and tireless advocate of the education of our area's youth. He co-founded the Kingston branch of the Hebrew Day School of Sullivan and Ulster Counties and served as Board Member of Hebrew Day School of Sullivan and Ulster Counties. Dr. Fletcher was elected to the Kingston City School District Board of Education in 2003. Dr. Fletcher served as Board President for two terms (2008-2009, 2009-2010) and Vice President for the two years prior to that.
Loving husband of Brenda Fletcher, father of Jason Fletcher of New York City and Alex Fletcher and his wife Claire of New York City, brother of Pamela Dixon and her husband Thomas of W. Palm Beach, FL and Dr. Robert Fletcher and his wife Diane of W. Hurley, uncle to many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Simpson - Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. Interment will follow in Montrepose Cemetery. A period of mourning will be observed at the Fletcher residence from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. on Sunday through Wednesday.
