David Gurwitz, 82, of West Hurley, passed away Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at Health Alliance Hospital Broadway Campus.
Born in the Bronx, he was the son of the late Rubin & Ella Plotkin Gurwitz.
David graduated from the Bronx High School of Science. He then went on to graduate from City College of NY with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He received a Master’s in Electrical Engineering from NYU and a PhD. in Electrical Engineering from Washington University. He worked for 30 years at IBM in Kingston as a computer programmer. After he retired, he remained in the area with his wife Phyllis.
David pursued a variety of interests including photography, travel, music, art, and reading. He loved spending time with his family and friends. Those who knew David remember him having a camera in his hand at all times. He also volunteered for Family of Woodstock.
David is survived by his wife of 56 years, Phyllis Barban Gurwitz of West Hurley, a daughter, Deborah Schachter of Hurley, a son Daniel “Baruch” Gurwitz and his wife, Jill Pelavin of Boston, MA. Two grandsons, Sam & Eli Schachter and close friends, Carissa Henson, Brandi Williams and Brandi Planthaber also survive.
A Celebration of Life is planned for the spring.
