David C. Greenberg of Zandhoek Road, Hurley died Monday, June 8, 2009 at Phelps Memorial Hospital, Sleepy Hollow. He was 61.
Dave was born in Kingston on June 22, 1947, a son of the late Joseph and Ann Plonski Greenberg. He was a Rondout Valley High School graduate, class of '66.
From 1966 - 1970 he served in the US Navy during the Vietnam Conflict on the USS Sterett. He then married Jane Sumislaski on November 28, 1970.
As an electrician, Dave previously worked for Clark Electric and then Whitman Electric. Since 1994 he was employed at Rondout Electric, Poughkeepsie.
An avid NASCAR fan, Dave attended, for 20 consecutive years, the Daytona 500 (from 1988 - 2008.) He had a passion for gardening and enjoyed manicuring his lawn.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Jane Greenberg, are a daughter Karyn Hernandez and her husband Rolando of Norwalk, CT, a son David J. Greenberg of Kingston; twin grandsons Alexander and Andrew Hernandez, a half-brother Walter Edwards and his wife Mary of Napanoch, a half-sister Donna Van Wagner and her husband Larry of Ulster Heights, his mother-in-law Wanda Sumislaski, two brother-in-laws John Sumislaski and his wife Priscilla of Ringwood, NJ; James Sumislaski and his wife Gina of Boca Raton, Fl.; several nieces, nephews and cousins with special mention of Ginny Bishop and Sandy Foster.
Reposing at the Simpson - Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. on Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and on Friday at Christ the King Episcopal Church, 3021 State Route 213 East, Stone Ridge (845-687-9414) on Friday from 9:00 a.m. A Burial Service will be conducted on Friday at 10:00 a.m. at Christ the King, The Rev. Alison Quin will officiate. Interment, with military honors by Joyce-Schirick Post 1386, will be in Hurley Cemetery.
