David Bruce Van Etten, 79, of Lake Katrine, passed away Monday, December 8, 2014. He was born October 27, 1935 in Kingston, to the late Cortland and Mable (MacCollam) Van Etten. He married Judith Jones Garrison on August 29th 1982 aboard the Marion T. Budd while cruising the Hudson River. They recently celebrated their 32nd anniversary in Ripalvella, Italy.
Dave was a Kingston High School graduate in the class of 1954. He attended Hartwick College and graduated from the Albany College of Pharmacy. He served his country as a Specialist in the US Army for 5 years including an 18 month tour in Korea. He was the owner of Dedrick's Pharmacy in Kingston and New Paltz for 37 years. After selling he went to work for NYS Dept of Corrections as a pharmacist at the Regional Pharmacy at Upstate Correctional Facility in Napanoch. David recently retired.
Dave loved skiing, biking, hunting, and reading. He was a member of PSSNY, Orange Co. Pharmacy Society, Dutchess Co. Pharmacy Society, NYS Hearing Aid Society where he served as Vice President, Capital District Hearing Aid Society, and the 70+ Ski Club. He enjoyed years of ski trips around the world and to his favorite mountain in Utah. Dave was very benevolent and enjoyed supporting several yearly charity bike rides.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his children; Scott Van Etten and his wife Eliana Aquino of Porto Alegre, Brazil, Patrick Garrison and his wife Elizabeth Banks of Maple Crest, NY, and Jenna Schroeder and her husband Michael of Okinawa, Japan. He also leaves his grandchildren, David, Lea, Abigail, James and Karson. Dave was pre deceased by his nephews Mark Van Etten, Eric Van Etten, his sister-in-law, Margaret "Peg" Van Etten and his sister Jeanne Bayer. He leaves behind his brother Philip Van Etten, his sister Joanne Krchniak and her husband Milan, several cousins, nieces, nephews, and numerous dear friends. Dave was influential in helping many people throughout his life both as a pharmacist and as a friend. His community, family, and all who knew him, will sorely miss him.
Entrusted to the care of Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 326 Albany Ave., Kingston, where friends and family may visit on Wednesday, December 17th from 3pm to 7pm. The funeral service will take place at the funeral home on Thursday, December 18th at 11am. Inurnment with Military Honors will take place in Mount Marion Cemetery at a later date.
