David Baker, 78, of Kingston passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2015 at Albany Medical Center. He was the son of the late Charles and Marcella Baker. David was a graduate of Highland High School, and graduated with a Master's Degree from SUNY New Paltz. He taught science in Rondout Valley and Saugerties Central Schools for a total of 31 years. He also served as a Corporal E4 in the US Army. He dedicated his time to educating and improving the lives of others through membership in civic organizations such as the Boy Scouts of America, Hurley Reformed Church, Genealogical Society of Ulster County, Hurley Heritage Society, and Ulster County Historical Society. In addition, he was the Historian for the Town of Hurley and on the Hurley Cemetery Board of Trustees. He especially loved doing lectures on history of the area to adults and school children and participated in many historical events around the county in particular, the annual Stone House Day in Hurley, NY. He was an avid reader and science enthusiast and enjoyed boating, fishing, as well as singing in various choral groups throughout his life. Survived by his wife, Patricia Baker, and four children, Lori Baker of Kingston, Sheryl Delano of Lake Katrine, Kevin Baker and wife, Dawn of Grass Valley CA., and Eric Baker of Hoosick Falls, his brother Richard Baker and wife Ella of Florida and his 7 grandchildren, Keith, Kirt, Jonathan, Nicole, Mikayla, Justin and Cody. He is predeceased by his brother John Baker. A Memorial Service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the Hurley Reformed Church in Hurley, NY. A luncheon will follow the service in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Hurley Reformed Church, PO Box 328, Hurley NY 12443, or the Fisher House, Attention Michael Fitzpatrick, 113 Holland Ave, Albany, NY 12208. The Fisher House provides military families with housing which keeps loved ones close during a hospitalization for an illness, disease or injury.
