Darlene Shiels

Darlene Shiels, age 71, of Mount Vernon, Texas passed away after a long illness surrounded by love on November 2, 2019. Darlene was born in Kingston, New York on July 23, 1948 to the late F. Willard and Lillian June Whitaker Shiels.

Following high school, Darlene pursued a career in nursing, successfully obtaining her RN from Ulster County Community College. She was passionate about caring for others and strived to provide the best care for her patients. Patients at hospitals in New York, Hawaii, and Texas were all privileged to be treated under her expertise.

Darlene has been a longtime resident of Mt. Vernon and attended The First United Methodist Church.

Darlene is survived by one brother, Ronald Shiels, and wife Diane, of Hurley, New York; one nephew R.J. Shiels, and wife Angelica, of Arnold, Maryland; nieces Marissa Smith, and husband Matthew, of Baldwinsville, New York and Emily Gabriel, and husband Michael, of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania; and many other close Texas relatives and dear friends. She was predeceased by her loving and devoted brother, Thomas Shiels. She is remembered fondly by those close to her for her sense of humor, chatty personality, and nurturing nature.

The family will hold a private memorial service in Kingston, New York at a later date.
