Damein "Kovacs" J Kovacs, 16, of Shokan, died tragically Wednesday, May 18, 2016 as the result of an auto accident on Route 28, Shokan.
Damein was a sophomore at Onteora High School, an all round athlete, he started playing football in the Rondout Valley School district before moving to Shokan. He played for the area youth football leagues, then after Onteora stopped their football program, he played for Kingston High School football. At Onteora High he was on the wrestling and baseball teams.
He was country and genuine, sometimes a little too forthright, he loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and logging. He was extremely patriotic, loved the flag and had a great sense of humor. Always helpful he would give you the shirt off his back. He wanted to pursue a career in logging, and had planned on attending Paul Smith's College in the Adirondacks.
He was a hard worker, never doing things half way, he was employed by Fine Line Landscaping & Snowplowing, and this summer he was going to work there full time. A true blue boy, he loved his truck, auto mechanics, things that moved, but he still knew how to give a hug and say "I love you"
His favorite saying was "I may not be here for a long time, but here for a good time". His teachers often referred to him as an "old soul" wise beyond his years.
Damien was born September 26, 1999 in Kingston, and is survived by his loving family, his mother Danyelle Greco Kovacs of Shokan, his father Timothy Dolan of Kingston, his sister Taevin C. Dolan of home, his step Dad Luke Pustilnik of Shokan, grandparents Diana M. Kovacs and Wayne Greco of Cottekill and Tammy and Tom Dolan of West Hurley. His best friend, who was like a brother, Tanner Evans of West Hurley.
