Collette M. Sonnenberg, 90, of Ferncliff Nursing Home in Rhinebeck, NY, formerly of Kingston, passed away Monday, September 11, 2017. She was born March 16, 1927 in Kingston, to the late Ernest and Helen (Van De Mark) Magnusson.
Collette was a graduate of Kingston High School and received her Master's Degree from SUNY New Paltz. She was an elementary schoolteacher for the Kingston City School District for many years, teaching at the old #7, George Washington, and Zena schools.
She was an active member of Old Dutch Reformed Church in Kingston. Music was her true passion, and at the age of 15, she began singing in the choir at Old Dutch Church. She was a soloist and member of the choir for 75 years. She did a lot of volunteer work for the church, coordinating publicity efforts for numerous Church programs, including the summer organ recital series and various special events. She was also a member and past president of the Business and Professional Women's Association.
Collette is survived by her two sons, Craig E. Sonnenberg of Leeds, MA, and Marc A. Sonnenberg of Las Vegas, Nevada.
Entrusted to the care of A. Carr & Son Funeral Home, 65 Lucas Ave, Kingston, NY 12401, where family and friends may visit on Monday September 18 from 4pm to 7pm. The memorial service will take place at 11am on Tuesday September 19 at Old Dutch Church, 272 Wall St., Kingston, NY. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Old Dutch Reformed Church, PO Box 3162, Kingston, NY 12402.
