Clayton Alfred Stalter Jr., a retired City of Kingston fire fighter died Wednesday, July 12, 2006. He was 82.
He was born February 26, 1924 in Kingston, a son of the late Clayton A. and Jeanette H. Hillis Stalter Sr.
Mr. Stalter served in the army from 1942-1945. He was appointed a temporary fire fighter for the City of Kingston on May 1, 1948. He was appointed fire fighter 3rd. grade on February 1, 1950. He retired on May 1, 1985, following 27 years of service. He was past president of Fire Fighters, Local 461, Kingston; past-president of Kingston National Little League and a former member of Joyce-Schirick VFW Post 1386.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Van Etten Stalter of Hollywood, FL, his setp-mother, Julia Stalter, three sons, Darryl Stalter and his wife, Carol of Lehigh, Fl; Bruce “Bay” Stalter of Estero, FL; Mark Stalter and his wife, Kathy of Hopewell Junction; two step-sons, Larry Van Etten and his wife, Linda of Hollywood, FL; Gary Van Etten of Unionville, CT; two sisters, Genevieve Polacco and her husband Charles and Violet William and her husband, the late Herbert both of Kingston, grandchildren Anthony T. and Mark A. Stalter; step-grandchildren Jeffrey, Josh and Christopher Van Etten and Nick Lidestri and great-step-grandchildren Nicole and Julia Van Etten. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Cremation took place in Florida. Graveside services with military honors by Joyce-Schirick VFW Post 1386 will be conducted Saturday, 10:30 am in Trinity Church Cemetery, Rt. 9W, Saugerties.
