Charles F. Scheid “Pop”, 93, of Kingston, NY, passed away Monday, February 12, 2024 at home. He was born on September 30, 1930 in Kingston, NY, son of the late Charles and Helene (Glaser) Scheid. He was in the Kingston High School graduating class of 1950. Charles received an Honorable discharge from the National Guard of the State of New York and the National Guard of the United States after 10 years of dedicated service. He married the love of his life, Loretta (Burns) Scheid, on July 8th, 1956, at St. Mary's Church in Kingston.
He was born into a family with a long history of railroad workers and he continued the tradition by working for Conrail/CSX as a Conductor and Brakeman until his retirement in 1992. In 1985 after becoming a grandfather, Charles became known as “Pop” and the name quickly became a term of endearment for those who were blessed to know him. He had tremendous love and respect for his Grandsons and was extremely proud of them. He is well known for his beloved cottage in West Shokan that he literally enjoyed sharing with hundreds of people over the years. He had a magnitude of love for his family, and never stopped asking what he could do to help them right up until his very end. He will be sadly missed.
