Catheryn "Cathy" Berger

Catheryn “Cathy” Berger, 89, of Union Center Road, Ulster Park, NY, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, June 20, 2023. She was born on January 3, 1934 in Middletown, NY, daughter of the late Ray and Reah (Crotty) Goble. Cathy was married on August 12, 1956 to Robert G. Berger, Robert passed away in 2012.

Cathy graduated from Middletown High School (1952) and went to SUNY New Paltz where she received her BS degree in Elementary Education. She substituted and taught in the Kingston and Arlington School Districts for 30 years.

She was an active member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Redeemer where she served on the church council, taught Sunday School, co-chaired the Fellowship Committee, and served on the Garden Committee. Cathy served as secretary and board member of the Klyne Esopus Museum, she was a member of the Kingston Retired Teachers Association, secretary of Retiree Council 13 of NYS United Teachers, and a member and former treasurer of Delta Kappa Gamma. She was chairperson of Union Center Day.

She enjoyed golf with her husband and was a member of the New Paltz Golf Course, loved gardening (especially flowers). Cathy enjoyed traveling with her husband and having family gatherings. She loved their Shelties, Toby, Fergus, Max, and Colton. She enjoyed Cape Cod where she, her husband, and daughter, enjoyed many days.

Cathy is survived by her nieces and nephews, Judy (Hermance) Snyder and her husband Jim of Hurley, Thomas Hermance and his wife Jamy of Ulster Park, Karen Kent Dwyer and her husband Tom of Selbyville, DE, Allan Kent and his wife Debbie of TN, and Stephen Kent of TN, her late daughter’s significant other, Ed Shapiro of NYC, as well as many other loving family, friends, and aides. In addition to her husband and parents, Cathy is predeceased by her daughter, MaryAnn Berger, her sister, Marilyn Hermance, and her nephew, Brian Kent.

Arrangements entrusted to Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 216 Broadway, Port Ewen, NY 12466 where family and friends may visit on Monday June 26, 2023 from 4pm to 7pm. The funeral service will take place at 10am on Tuesday June 27, 2023 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 104 Wurts Street, Kingston, NY 12401. Inurnment will follow in St. Remy Cemetery, St. Remy, NY.
