Catherine M. Gaus, of Wilson Avenue, Kingston died Sunday morning, March 11, 2007. She was 77.
She was born in Richmond Hill on February 3, 1930, a daughter of the late James Joseph and Catherine Farrell Dempsey Wescott. She graduated John Adams High School in South Ozone Park.
From 1948 - 1955 she worked as a dental assistant in Richmond Hill. On May 1, 1955 she married Robert C. Gaus.
Formerly of Floral Park and Massapequa, for over 20 years she lived on Thorne Street, North Babylon.
In 1982 she moved to Kingston and dedicated herself to help run the family business, Simpson - Gaus Funeral Home. For the past 24 years Catherine has helped served hundreds of area families.
A parishioner of St. Joseph's Church, she is a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas - Court Santa Maria and the Ladies Auxiliary of Post 150 - American Legion. Catherine has served as the vice president of the Ladies Society of Santa Maria, Kingston Point.
A lover of animals and nature, her beloved 'Honey' died in 2005.
Her brother James Brooke Wescott died in 1990.
Surviving are her husband of 51 years Robert C. Gaus, one son Robert J. Gaus, Kingston, six nieces and nephews.
A wake was conducted at Simpson - Gaus Funeral Home on Tuesday. A vigil service was then conducted that evening. A Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Joseph's Church with interment in Montrepose Cemetery.
