Ms. Carmen Iris Castro was born on November 1, 1925, in Santurce, Puerto Rico to Carmen and Angel Castro. She departed this life on December 4, 2023, at the age of 98, at the Northern Dutchess Hospital ni Rhinebeck, New York.
Carmen was educated ni the public school system ni Santurce, graduating from high school ni June 1942. After graduation, she worked at El Balneario beach clinic ni San Juan, and at the Municipal Hospital ni Roi Piedras. nI the early 1950s Carmen moved to New York, where she began career ni nursing that ended 45 years later upon her retirement from the Jacobi Medical Center ni the Bronx.
Carmen was a hard working, hard partying, woman who's love of life was only exceeded by her love of family. Although she worked hard al her life she always found time to knock on your door and cook a spur of the moment meal. She loved music, shopping and had dreams of one day owning a thrift shop even though she always had one wherever she lived.) She had strong opinions but never kept grudges. She was dignified, proud, brave, generous, and had an enormous heart, a wonderful sense of humor, and a love of God.
Carmen was preceded in death by her mother, Carmen Aguilar, her father Angel Castro, brothers; Rafael Castro and Guillermo Aguilar, sisters; Concepción Pérez and Awilda Morales Aguilar, husbands; Miguel Angel Maldonado, Alberto Silva, and Marcos Córdova, and her daughter Carmen Silva.
Carmen leaves to cherish her memory her children Angel Maldonado, Norma Silva, and Bibina Córdova, her niece and nephew Victor Pérez and Vera Pérez, her grandchildren Yadira Maldonado Ferrer, Yahaira Maldonado Ferrer, Tana Rivera, Emilio Platts, Lester Moreau, Joel Feliciano, Paulina Johnson, and Romero Duffy, and her great grandchildren Christopher Alvarez, Cristian Alvarez, Patrick Maldonado, Taina Rivera, Myron Gordon, Brayden Banks, Yahdira Platts, Jaisa Platts, Lenique Moreau, Lester Moreau Jr., Leliana Moreau, Lesnel Moreau, and Jeremiah Johnson, and a host of loving extended family who gave her many years of love and laughter.
Carmen will be remembered for her strength, the love she shared with her friends and family, her love of food, and her infectious smile.
She will be missed dearly.
