Carl Bruce Houghtaling, 71, of Port Ewen, passed suddenly, Thursday morning at the Health Alliance Hospital, Broadway Campus, Kingston, surrounded by his loving family. He was born December 28, 1941 in Kingston, the son of the late Kenneth N. and Esther Putvin Houghtaling.
He was a graduate of Kingston High School, Class of 1961, and served in the US Air Force, from 1963 - 1967 during the Vietnam War. He had attended Vallejo Community College in California.
Carl had been employed by the US Postal service in Newburgh for 40 years. He loved music and playing the organ, he performed often at Governor's Tavern, Friar Tuck, Oehler's Mountain Lodge and several other places. He enjoyed tennis, chess and shopping for electronics.
Carl is survived by his loving family, wife Holie Houghtaling, his children Alice Bell and her husband Thomas, Kenneth Houghtaling and his partner James Canning, Jr., his former wife Nancy DiMicco, a grandson Thomas J. Bell, his childhood best friend Bill Miller, dear friends, Brian Schub, Dr. Ron Hayes, Johnny Reynoso and Rich Haines. He was predeceased by a brother Howard Houghtaling.
Entrusted to the care of Eric Keyser, Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 216 Broadway, Port Ewen, Friends may call on Sunday from 2 - 6 pm. The service will be Monday at 11:00 am, Rev. James Beukelman, officiating. Burial in Wiltwyck Cemetery, with military honors.
