Captain James L. Walsh, Jr., 64, of Kingston, NY passed away Saturday, November 7, 2015. Born September 11, 1951 in Brooklyn, NY, Jim graduated from Saugerties High School in 1969. Early on in his life he learned the automobile repair trade and worked at Mufflers, Inc. In 1980 Jim became the proud Owner of Jim's Mufflers, Inc. on Ulster Avenue in Kingston where he worked side by side with his son and co-owner, Robbie Walsh. Jim was a maritime enthusiast and had attained his Captain License. He was an accomplished fisherman (with a special gift for catching record breaking Blue Marlin), golfer (with 2 Hole-In Ones to his credit), and bowler (recently scoring his first 300 game).
Jim is survived by his wife Mary D. Walsh of Kingston, his children, Robbie Walsh and his wife Holly of Kingston, Renee Butcher and her husband Dr. Robert Butcher of Yorktown, Virginia, his grandchildren, Dylan Walsh, Sara Butcher and Sean Butcher, his sister, Margaret Muscato of Florida, and his former wife and the mother of his children, Valerie Walsh. He is pre-deceased by his brother, John Walsh. Jim was also a loved son-in-law, brother-in-law, and uncle. He will also be forever missed his by his many life-long friends who were considered family. Jim touched many lives with a beautiful and genuine heart. His smile was like no other.
Jim has been entrusted to the care of Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 326 Albany Ave., Kingston, where friends and family may visit on Thursday from 4 to 8pm. The funeral service will take place on Friday at 11am at the funeral home. To leave an expression of sympathy, please visit
