Camilla J. DeWitt, 84, of Hurley, died Saturday, March 3, 2012 at home. She was born December 3, 1927 in Kingston, to the late Harry F. and Ida (Bettenhausen) DeWitt.
She attended the Northfield School for Girls and then graduated from Kingston High School, she received a Bachelors of Science from SUNY Geneseo and later attended Syracuse University and SUNY Oneonta on her way towards completeing a Masters Degree from SUNY Albany.
Camilla worked as a librarian for 34 years before retiring in 1984. She worked for the Fallsburg, Scotia Glenville and Kingston School districts throughout her career. In Kingston she worked as the librarian at J. Watson Bailey Middle School for many years.
She was a member of the Kingston Retired Teachers Federation, NYS Retired Teachers Association, Hurley Heritage Society and Fair Street Reformed Church.
Camillia is survived by her nieces and nephews; Virginia LaConture, Donald DeWitt II, Steven DeWitt and Melinda Lamoureux, as well as, 3 grand nieces and 1 grand nephew.
She is predeceased by her siblings, John DeWitt, Donald DeWitt and Carol Ann Harries.
Entrusted to the care of Luke Keyser of A. Carr & Son Funeral Home, 65 Lucas Ave, Kingston, NY 12401 where friends may call on Tuesday from 4 - 7 pm. The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 10 am at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Rosendale Plains Cemetery.
