Calvin (Cal) H. Warnecke, 83, of Glenford, died of cancer, Sunday, September 16, 2012 at St. Peter's Hospital, Albany, with his loving family surrounding him. He was born November 4, 1928 in Kingston, the son of the late Ernest and Ruth Davis Warnecke.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, G. Marion Warnecke, their son, Calvin G. Warnecke and his wife Janet. Daughters, Cynthia (Cindy) Scherry and her husband Stephen, Gail Bamford and her husband Timothy, 6 grandchildren, Jeffrey & Kathy Warnecke, Rejoice and Paul Scherry, Courtney and Audrey Bamford & great granddaughters, Emily and Michelle Warnecke. Cal is also survived by his brother Robert and sisters Joyce Rockwell, Bernice Balogh, and Elizabeth Godbey and his faithful dog Emmy. His brothers William and Ernest, and sister Elsie Bonesteel have predeceased him.
Cal served 4 years in the USAF as a Staff Sergeant crew chief of a C-124 aircraft. He worked for IBM for 36 years, retired in 1990 as a component engineer. In his youth Cal enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, gardening, boating and woodworking. Cal served as a volunteer fireman and emergency medical tech for both IBM and the West Hurley Fire District. He was a life member of the NRA, a member of the Wittenberg Sportsmen's Club, and the Shandaken Annual Primitive Biathlon Committee.
In later life Cal enjoyed photography. Of greater importance, Cal enjoyed the Lord and spent years serving Him in many churches. Shortly after his marriage he served as a deacon for the Reformed Church of The Comforter in Kingston. Next, he served as a deacon and then an Elder & the President of the Trustees of the Shokan Reformed Church. Cal was a founding father of the Evangelical Fellowship Church in the Vly, Stone Ridge where he served as an Elder and President of the Trustees.
Most recently he attended worship services at Grace Bible Fellowship Church in Rhinebeck. Cal said that his family, friends, relatives and church family have comforted him, especially Marion who served as the pianist for several churches throughout her life. The accomplishments of all of his children and grandchildren were a joy to his life. Cal wishes to thank everyone for their prayers and all of the wonderful medical personnel at St. Peters Hospital, New York Oncology & Hematology, and all of the other medical personnel who attended his needs. Entrusted to the care of Eric Keyser, A. Carr & Son Funeral Home, 65 Lucas Ave., Kingston friends may call from 2-4 & 7-9 PM on Friday. A memorial Service will be held at Grace Bible Fellowship Church, Rt. 9, Rhinebeck on Saturday at 1 p.m., followed by a gathering at the church. Internment and Military Honors at Wiltwyck Cemetery on Monday at 11a.m.
