Blythe Miller Grogan, formerly of Stone Ridge, NY, Greenwich, Darien and Westport, CT, died Monday, August 29, 2011 at The Baptist Home, Rhinebeck. She was 94.
Born in Phoenix, AZ, she was the daughter of the late Berta Blythe and Charles Riegel. Blythe received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Mills College, CA. She then moved to New York City to pursue an acting and singing career. It was at an audition that she met John Michael Grogan. They married soon after.
Blythe was featured as the first voice for FAB detergent. She also performed on stage and radio, and toured with several light opera companies.
They moved to Greenwich, CT in 1957 and then to Darien, CT in 1967. Blythe's husband founded the Darien Dinner Theater in 1977, while she worked as a licensed realtor. John died February 26, 1980.
In 1999 she moved to Stone Ridge, NY to live with her daughter, Gaelen and family.
Beloved wife of the late John Michael Grogan; loving mother of Gaelen Grogan-Doughman and her husband William of Stone Ridge, NY, and Glenna Grogan Maas and her husband John of Winsted, CT; lifelong friend of Ingeborg Rohde of Munich, Germany.
A graveside service will be conducted at Spring Grove Cemetery, Darien, CT on Friday, September 9th at 11:30am.
