Billy J. Montgomery

Billy J. Montgomery, 66, of Kingston, NY, passed away at home on Tuesday, April 9, 2024 . He was born on May 7, 1957 in Colquitt, GA and was the son of the late Porter and Mattie Lou Montgomery. 

He graduated from Kathleen High School in 1975 and went on to serve in the United States Army from 1975-1977. Billy served overseas in Germany and was honorably discharged. 

He was affectionately known as “Uncle Billy” and “Uncle Doo-rag”. Billy enjoyed cooking on the grill and was known for his famous ribs. He enjoyed going fishing and playing cards, especially spades.

He loved watching football and basketball. He always talked about how much he missed watching games with his brothers Don and Randy after they passed.  

Above all, Billy enjoyed spending time with his family.  

He is survived by his sons Isaiah Montgomery, Billy Joe Montgomery Jr., Jeremy Montgomery, and Roland Montgomery. His sisters Diann Montgomery, Rose Mary Hawdel, Julie Thomas, and brother Jimmy Montgomery. His longtime partner Gail Becker. He is survived by 13 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Billy is also survived by his ex-wife Rita Gorham. 

In addition to his parents, Billy is preceded in death by his sisters Jeanette Williams, Annie Ruth Gammage, Friend McCaster, Mae Ella Montgomery, Ella Mae Montgomery, Flossie Mae Grant. His brothers Douglas Montgomery, Frank James Montgomery, Porter B. Montgomery, Jr., Willie Joe Montgomery, Don Montgomery and Randy Montgomery, Sr. 

Arrangements entrusted to Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, Inc., 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston, NY 12401, where family and friends may visit on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, from 10am to 11am with a funeral service taking place at 11am. Burial will follow at the Ulster County Veterans Cemetery at New Paltz Rural Cemetery.
