Beverly K. Gilbert of West Chester Street, Kingston died Wednesday, August 18, 2010 at Kingston Hospital. She was 72.
She was born in Vischer Ferry, NY, a daughter of the late Clarence Archie and Victoria Heline Kline. She graduated Shenendehowa High School, Clifton Park, class of 1957. Beverly received an Associates degree from SUNY Cobleskill in 1959 in Early Childhood Education.
On June 20, 1970 she married Edward Gilbert in Voorheesville. They moved to Kingston in 1982.
Beverly taught Nursery Education in several cities throughout the state. She was an advocate for children with special needs and, from 1983 - 1991 was the parent representative from the community for Special Education through Kingston Schools Consolidated. She substituted at the Salvation Army Daycare in Kingston for several years.
An avid quilter, Mrs. Gilbert was a lifetime member of the Wiltwyck Quilters Guild, volunteered at the Kingston Maritime Museum and helped out at the Ulster County Battered Women's Shelter. She sang in Cantor Bob Cohen's Interfaith Choir.
Preceeding Beverly, her daughter Lara Gilbert, died December 2, 1976.
Surviving are her husband of 40 years, Edward Gilbert; three daughters Christin A. Chavez of Accord, Katrina-Joy Nielson and her husband Kenneth of Rotterdam and Thyra Weber of Albany; one son R. Thor Williams and his wife Joanna of Bethel, Alaska; seven grandchildren Felisha Chavez, Tiana Williams, Kayla Williams, Victoria Chavez, Reuben Chavez Jr., Sven Williams and Stephanie Nielson; one great granddaughter Molly Hasenflue; one brother in law Donald Gilbert; a close friend William Ebelheiser; one sister Farine Scovoine of Schenectady and one nephew Peter Knight of Texas.
Reposing at the Simpson - Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. on Saturday from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be conducted at the funeral home on Sunday at 12:00. Cantor Bob Cohen will officiate. Interment will be in Lawyersville Reformed Church Cemetery (outside of Cobleskill, NY) on Monday.
