Beverly Gladys Bassin

Beverly Gladys Bassin, 92, formerly of Kingston died October 19, 2011 in Madison, WI. She was born in Kingston, NY, a daughter of the late Morris and Goldie Kline Berman. Educated at Goucher College, MD, she received a Masters Degree at the University of Chicago. A longtime resident of Chicago, IL, Beverly worked as a School Social Worker with the Chicago Board of Education for 18 years. She retired in 1986 and moved to Madison, WI in 1990. During her entire adult life Beverly worked tirelessly in many different groups supporting the struggle for equal rights for all races and the basic human rights of people worldwide. Beloved mother of Harris Bassin of Ashland, OR, William Bassin of Chicago, Il and Prof. Mark Bassin of Stockholm, Sweden; loving grandmother of Amanda Rose Cumbow, Dorian Jacob Bassin and Kalina Beata Bassin; sister of the late Dorothy Sumber and Dr. Shirley Fletcher. Many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grandnephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at Simpson - Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave., Kingston, NY on Tuesday at 12:00 PM by Rabbi Yael Romer. Interment in Montrepose Cemetery.
